Importance of centre and mandate
Rajasthan has been classified in ten agro-climatic zones based on the physiographic division of the state, its rainfall pattern, soil types, availability of irrigation water, cropping pattern and administrative units,. Out of these, two agro-climatic zones viz., (i) Zone IV-a: Sub-humid Southern Plain and Aravali Hills and (ii) Zone IV-b: Humid Southern Plain fall under MPUAT service area (MPUATSA). The jurisdiction of MPUAT is spread over 07 districts namely Udaipur, Banswara, Dungarpur, Rajsamand, Bhihwara, Chittorgarh and Pratapgarh and has 4.89 m ha geographical area. Development and education of modern practices in the field of Agriculture and Horticulture for sustainable livelihood of the rural masses is the main thrust of the service area of MPUAT, Udaipur.
Mandate:
- To identify high yielding stable wheat varieties for major crop growing situations viz. normal/late/very late sown-irrigated conditions, restricted irrigations.
- To develop/refinement of agronomic constitute of production technology.
- To support breeding programme of the project through evaluation of newly developed genotypes under varying agronomic environments.
- To disseminate and popularize new technologies amongst farmers through Front Line Demonstration Programme.
