Importance:
- Centre is located in the state capital for the welfare of tribal dominated state
- Serving as the strategic centre for wheat development in eastern India
- Devoted to break mono cropping systems by wheat cultivation
- Representing different ecological situation of the entire state
- Having three Zonal Research Station in different agro climatic sub zone with sufficient infra structure.
Mandate:
- Basic and strategic research for developing high yielding varieties under different agro- ecological systems.
- Development of short duration variety suitable for rice – wheat cropping systems
- Development of heat and drought tolerant varieties
- Development of crop production technologies under low input management
- Suitable cropping system
- Integrated Nutrient management for better crop production
- Screening for leaf blight under artificial inoculation condition
- Screening of breeding material for yellow / brown rust resistance
