Importance of the centre and mandate:

The centre has developed 29 wheat and 26 barley varieties since inception of the project suitable for different agro-climatic situations of the country. Under the changed climatic conditions the centre has shifted its research priorities based on requirements like heat stress, moisture stress, soil degradation and improvement of various quality parameters and malt quality through targeted breeding programme. On the basic of performance of this project in the development of varieties, technologies as well as mentioned priorities for maximization of wheat and barley production in near future.
